App: Var är bussen?
Last updated: 28 September 2026
Var är bussen? is a real-time bus tracker for Swedish cities. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is (and is not) collected when you use the app or the website varärbussen.se.
If you tap the location button, your browser shares your position with the app so it can show you on the map and pick the nearest city. This happens only in your browser: your position is never sent to or stored on our servers.
The app saves a few settings in your browser's local storage so they are remembered next time: your selected city, language, light/dark theme, favourite lines and stops, and — only if you have reported or voted on a bus — a random anonymous ID (see below). Route shapes may also be cached in the browser to load faster. You can remove all of this by clearing the site's data in your browser.
You can report things about a bus (for example that it is full or skipped a stop). A report stores only the report type, the time, the bus/trip it concerns and a random anonymous ID, so the same device cannot report twice. The ID is created on your device the first time you report or vote — not when you just look at a bus. Reports are deleted automatically after 4 hours.
If you send feedback through the “Tyck till” form, we store only your message, the category you chose, the selected city, the language and the date. We do not store your IP address or anything about your device. To limit spam, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for at most 10 minutes and then deleted. Please do not include your name, email or other personal details in the message. Feedback is deleted automatically after 12 months.
To learn which features are used, the site counts actions such as tapping a bus, opening a stop or using search. The counting happens only in your browser's memory — nothing is saved on your device — and when you leave the page a single tally (for example “2 bus taps, 1 stop”) and a rough time bucket (such as “2–10 minutes”) are sent. On our side they are only added to daily totals per city. There is no ID, so visits cannot be linked to each other or to you. To limit abuse, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for at most 10 minutes and then deleted. Daily totals are kept for about 13 months.
We also use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies and does not identify or track individual visitors across sites; we only see aggregated numbers (such as pages visited, country and device type).
Real-time bus data comes from Trafiklab (Samtrafiken), fetched by our server — no personal information is sent to Trafiklab. Map images are loaded directly by your browser from OpenStreetMap and CARTO, which, like any website, receive your IP address when serving them. The site is hosted by Vercel and reports/feedback are stored with Upstash (Redis).
The app does not target children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 13.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
